Anghiari is a lovely medieval town lying between two rivers, the Tiber and the Arno. Monterchi is a Medieval village standing on a spot which, in Etrusco-Roman times was dedicated to the cult of Hercules (Mons Hercules). The main attraction of this village is the fresco of the "Madonna del Parto" by Piero della Francesca . This famous 15th century fresco, discovered only a century ago and recently restored, is in the Chapel of S. Maria di Momentana, near the little cemetery.

This town rises in the valley of the high basin of the Foglia river, to the confluence of the Seminico stream, on the road of the Pass of Viamaggio. It is an agricultural centre, place of some sawmills that take advantage of the forests of the zone. The territory of the Commune extends for a wide space comprising various villages , one of them is S. Donato, with an ancient nice church . Sestino is ancient much and was inhabited in roman age (Sestinus), like various archaeological remains testify.

Badia (Abbey) Tedalda is a small centre that rises at 799mt above the sea level along the road that connects the Romagna to the Tuscany. The Comune counts 1394 inhabitants. One says that in the mounts that encircle Badia Tedalda a certain Guido Monaco gave to the world seven miraculous notes. Today Badia Tedalda can be defined an angle of intact paradise where the people cordiality hospitality, and the air and the tastes of a typical Tuscan kitchen, can make living again, old feelings by now forgotten.

 
 

CITTA' DI CASTELLOCITTA' DI CASTELLO

Tifernum, originally a very ancient Umbrian centre in the Upper Tiber Valley, after conquest by the Romans, became towards the end of the 1st century a rich and flourishing Municipium named Tifernum Tiberinum. A powerful patron, Plinio il Giovane , adorned it with fine temples and public buildings. Artists of great renown, such as Signorelli and Raphael, to name but the greatest, worked at length in Città di Castello where they created some of their most significant paintings. The town then fell under Papal sway until 1860, when it was liberated by Piemontesi troops and annexed to the Kingdom of Italy.
